Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration: Your Hotel’s Opportunity
Many operators of hotels, motels, and Bed and Breakfasts overlook the great opportunities to take
advantage of well-publicised celebrations. With nationally (internationally) promoted celebrations, there is a built-in opportunity for you to easily tap into the local community for significant additional profits.
Did you say significant additional profits? Yes!!
“What can a hotel do?” you may ask.
1. Decorate your entry area, breakfast room, and meeting room with St. Patrick’s Day themed colors and decorative items.
2. How about offering special St. Patrick’s Day themed foods. You can get a number of ideas from Pinterest. Make them simple and creative. Serve them FREE all day long in your breakfast or restaurant area! Offer them not only to your visitors but to all comers from your community, too.
Promote, promote, promote!!
Yes, you do want people from your local area! “Why?” you may ask. If you are truly trying to distinguish your facility, it is obvious. Urge everyone to come to your facility and enjoy the free coffee, soft drinks, bottled water, and snacks!
Give everyone who comes to your facility a special coupon for a free discount on a stay at your facility. Always put a limit on it such as 1 or 2 years from the date issued. (HINT: Put “St. Patrick’s Day <year issued>” so you can track their use.)
You want to take advantage of every opportunity to promote your business! Get the word out via the event planners, Chamber-of-Commerce, and any other visible venue in your community. Look for any business in your area with a website to see if you can get a small ad on their websites promoting your celebration. Look for opportunities everywhere!
3. Offer St. Patrick’s Day themed caps/hats, pom-poms, M&Ms, etc., at the counter. Get ideas here at this Pinterest link.
4. Offer special St. Patrick’s Day packages for check-ins surrounding the Holiday Celebration and vigorously promote them locally, too. Don’t do it timidly or half-heartedly. Keep in mind that, if you do this around every holiday or day of celebration, your community will come to anticipate it and look forward to it. They will begin calling your hotel to see if you are doing something special and offering special package rates. When they begin this, BINGO, you have succeeded!
5. If your community has a parade, offer a transportation van to any of your registrants to take them to the parade and pick them up when it is over. Service, service, service!!
Your opportunities to promote and distinguish your facility, often with little more investment than some personal effort, is limited only by your imagination.
Remember, focus daily on ways to distinguish your business from all others in your local marketplace.
