You cannot afford for your guest to expect to have a mediocre visit at your hotel!
Part of the outside appearance of your facility is the lawn around it. In this example, on the left, the winter lawn is brown with scattered weeds. While that would be acceptable, in this case, the adjacent facility is the city event center which has planted annual rye grass and has a beautiful green lawn.
Do you really want the city property to show your guests how you have failed? Yes, you have distinguished yourself but very badly!
Imagine the effect that has on the subliminal attitude your guest has toward your facility and your service. Can you really afford that unfavorable comparison?
Remember, what goes on at the subconscious level of your guests’ evaluation is much more important than the conscious process.
Trash around your property, whether it is in your parking lot or at the perimeter of your property, is a very powerful subconscious negative.
Have a member of your team check early each morning and pick up all the trash on your property. Of course, if there has been a strong wind during the night, it will be even more important to do this. With a strong wind in the morning, you should remove trash again around noon to prevent it giving a bad impression of your property as your new guests arrive in the afternoon.
Remember that superior distinction of your business is your goal, not simply doing the minimum to get by. Your hotel, motel, or bed and breakfast surrounded by trash sends a powerful signal to your guest’s subconscious that you do not really care about your facility and sets the stage for anticipation of a mediocre visit at your inn. Even when the trash is on a neighboring property, it reflects badly on your business, so be sure it is picked up!
Here is to your facility being the dominant hotel business in your marketplace!
